AUSTIN — Texas Trucking Association today released the following statement regarding the passage of House Bill 19 by the Senate Committee on Transportation:

“Today’s unanimous passage of HB 19 is the result of a lengthy collaborative process. Over the past few weeks, legislators have worked tirelessly to draft a bill that protects the rights of all those injured in commercial motor vehicle accidents, while also ensuring defendants are given access to a fair and unbiased trial. HB 19 does just that and TXTA is proud to voice our support for this critical piece of legislation.

Thank you to Senate sponsor Larry Taylor (R-Friendswood) and House author Jeff Leach (R-Plano) for spearheading the negotiation process to produce a bill with broad support. Thank you also to Chairman Robert Nichols (R-Jacksonville) and the Senate Transportation Committee for advancing this important bill. Your vote of support today is a win for businesses across Texas, as it will help to ensure abusive lawsuits are reigned in and that the Texas economy can continue to thrive.”
